Sharing this recipe for a mulled wine jam just in time for the holiday season If you are new to making jams at home, this is a great first recipe to try. This mulled wine jam with whole spices, berries and warming ginger makes a great holiday gift that is quick and easy to make. But make sure to keep some for yourself. It will be perfect on your Holiday Charcuterie Board or tucked into your next grilled brie cheese sandwich.
Then let’s talk Christmas morning brunch. A stack of almond flour pancakes topped with this homemade German jam is about the best things you will eat this holiday season.
I always make sure to have one entire jar tucked away for my holiday baking and use it to fill my favorite German Christmas cookies like my Poppy Seed Sandwich Cookies or my Spitzbuben Cookies.
For this recipe, you need jam sugar / jelling sugar. Jam sugar gives the homemade Christmas jam its much-needed firm texture. For jam sugar substitutes and alternatives, head over to this article.
Storing homemade jam:
If you’ve sterilised and sealed your jars properly the jam should last for up to a year unopened. Once opened, store in the fridge.

German Mulled Wine Jam
This German Mulled Wine Jam with berries and ginger makes for the perfect homemade holiday gift and is the perfect addition to your Holiday Charcuterie Board.
Ingredients
- 2 3/4 cups frozen berries / 500 g
- 1 3/4 cups mulled wine
- 1 piece approx. 50 g ginger
- 2 1/4 cups jam sugar / jelly sugar 500g
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 cloves
- 1 star anise
Instructions
-
Heat the mulled wine with the spices and let it steep for about 15 minutes. Put the berries in a tall saucepan, peel the ginger, finely dice and add. Pour in the mulled wine and stir in the jam sugar. Bring everything to a boil while stirring and let simmer for 4 minutes. If you like a smooth jam, you can now blend it.
Fill the jam into glasses, close and let cool down.
Close the jars and place them upside down for about 15min (this ensures that the lids create a tight vacuum). Merry Christmas!
-
The jam can be stored in a cool place for about 1 year.

But of course it tastes best now at Christmas time!
Hi, I am planning to make that mulled wine jam. Can you be more specific what berries you used to cook the jam?
