Here’s a recipe that I discovered during my last vacation in Berlin, Germany. Fig spread with honey – it has become a staple in German cuisine, often served with crackers or bread. The growing interest in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavors in Germany has contributed to the rising popularity of fig spread and date spreads and you see them on many restaurant menus.
There are thousands of recipes for fig spread or fig dips out there but this one is the best. The combination of fresh figs and sweet dried figs, with creamy cream cheese, spicy goat’s cheese, delicious honey, and crunchy pistachios makes this dip a real treat for gourmets.
The fig spread is easy to prepare and can be used in many ways. Whether as a starter, snack or as part of a buffet -it will impress your guests and will be gone in no time.

How to make this Fig Spread Recipe
- The preparation of the fig dip is easy and requires only a few steps. Start by halving the dried figs and washing and roughly chopping the fresh figs.
- The dried figs are then soaked in hot water to make them easier to work with.
- In the meantime, you can put the cream cheese and goat’s cream cheese in a blender. Add the honey and lemon juice and mix until smooth and creamy.
- As soon as the soaked dried figs are soft, they can be drained and added to the cream cheese mixture along with the fresh figs. Use the blender or hand blender to blend everything into a smooth paste. Make sure all ingredients are well mixed.
- Next, the chopped pistachios are added, which give the dip a crunchy texture and nutty flavor. A large pinch of salt and ground pepper is then added to intensify the flavors and give the dip a slightly spicy note.
- Decorate with chopped pistachios, a drizzle of honey and fresh fig slices.

Ingredients
- 1 -2 dried figs
- 2 fresh figs Alternatively 2 dry figs
- 1 x 6 oz pack cream cheese
- 5 oz / 150 g fresh goat cheese
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 tbsp chopped pistachios
- 1 large pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp ground pepper from the mill
- Decoration:
- honey remaining of the 3 tsp
- chopped pistachios
- 1 fresh fig sliced
