Driving past a Coffee Shop the other day I noticed that the fall flavors have already been released. And fair enough, it might be only the first of September but here in Dawson Creek, it feels like mid-October already!

a foggy day in British Columbia

This week was nothing but rain and fog and we spent it mainly on the couch, hugging our mugs and binge-watching series. That’s totally allowed on days like that. So are sweet, hot beverages like this Maple Latte, or as we like to call it, the Mapleccino.

It’s a cross between a Maple Latte and a Maple Cappuccino as it is somewhere in between to two beverages regarding the proportions of ingredients.

What’s the difference between a Maple Latte and a Maple Cappucino:

The ingredients are exactly the same, just the proportions of espresso, milk and milk foam in the beverage change. If you want to make a Mapleccino, use 1/3 milk, 1/3 milk foam and 1/3 espresso.

A Maple Latte has more milk and less foam in it, making it easier to drink. My version is somewhere in between and you can call it whatever you like. I just really dig the word Mapleccino!

I am a huge fan of maple syrup and its property to add a certain coziness and comfort to everything including this cozy tasting Maple Latte aka. Maple Cappuccino.

How to make a darn good Maple Cappuccino or Maple Latte:

Making a Maple Latte is really easy and tastes just as good, or even better than any of those over-priced, fall-flavoured beverages at the Coffee Shop.

I all starts with freshly brewed espresso.

Use 120 ml for a Maple Cappuccino and 80 ml of espresso for a Maple Latte.

To the espresso, we add a heaping tablespoon of Maple Syrup. If I feel like treating myself, I even add 2, but only when making a latte.

The Maple Syrup adds sweetness and this certain depth to the Maple Cappuccino and Maple Latte. You can reduce the amount if you want to keep your Maple Latte low sugar and add some maple extract to up the maple flavour.

If you want to try Maple Extract, I recommend you use Frontier Co-op Maple Flavor, as it is by far the only one I have found that really tastes like Maple!

How to make the perfect Milk Foam for our Maple Latte:

The last addition is the most important one! The milk foam!

For making a Maple Latte, use 1 1/2 cups of milk. When making a Maple Cappuccino, go with 3/4 cup of milk.

To get the perfect milk foam I use an Automatic Milk Frother (affiliate link).

I love it and it’s great for when you have company and you don’t want to be trapped in the kitchen foaming milk manually.

Before foaming the milk, I like to stir in some vanilla extract and a pinch of cinnamon! You can add some Maple Flavor instead. There’s nothing better than the smell of warm, autumnal flavoured milk!

Can I make this Maple Latte (Mappleccino) with dairy-free milk?

I prepared this Maple Cappuccino with partly skimmed milk (2%), but I’ve also tried it with unsweetened Organic Vanilla-flavoured Almond Milk and it worked great!

Silk Coconut Milk also does the job well even though non-dairy foam tends to disappear more quickly than regular milk foam.

But let’s be honest – if you are like me, your milk foam does not survive longer than one minute anyways.
