These Healthy Homemade Ferrero Rocher Balls (Hazelnut Truffles) are vegan, sugar-free and gluten-free. The perfect Christmas food gift or holiday treat!
These Healthy Homemade Ferrero Rocher Balls are a vegan, gluten-free and refined sugar-free Christmas treat!
With the holidays around the corner, all things chocolate and hazelnut are in high demand. And what is the ultimate treat when it comes to chocolate and hazelnuts?
Ferrero Rocher!
Ever since I was a kid these little truffles have always been my all-time favorite holiday treat. My parents’ piano students would always bring them as Christmas gifts and my sister and I would always make sure to snatch them before out parents repurpose them.
My challenge this Christmas was to recreate a Ferrero Rocher recipe using healthy, real food ingredients and make them taste as good as the original.
Which ingredients are in these Healthy Homemade Ferrero Rocher Balls?
There is no Nutella in these healthy Ferrero Rocher Balls. Sorry! But trust me you will not miss it! The intense hazelnut and chocolate flavor of these guilt-free chocolates comes for a combination of following healthy ingredients:
- Nut Butter ( I recommend hazelnut butter)
- Dates
- Rolled Oats
- Toasted Hazelnuts
- Cocoa Powder
- Espresso Powder
- Vanilla
- coconut cream or nut milk
How many calories does one Homemade Ferrero Rocher Ball have?
One of these little Ferrero Rocher Chocolates has 99 calories, so obviously, they are a treat! But hey, is that really better than store-bought Ferrero Rocher?
YES! SO MUCH BETTER! Store-bought Rocher chocolates are loaded with nasty ingredients, cheap fats and loads of sugar! Also they are are not vegan!
So if indulging in a sweet treat, I would rather have one that provides me with healthy fats, fiber-rich oats, and inflammation-reducing cocoa powder! Really, a no-brainer.
And one or two of these healthy Ferrero Rocher Balls with a mug of Maple Latte and a good read? Yep, that’s my perfect winter day.
How to make healthy homemade Ferrero Rocher Hazelnut Truffles:
The recipe, my friends, is a simple one! All you need is a copper or metal bowl for melting some chocolate and a food processor.
Start by chopping the oats in your food processor until very fine and almost powdery, then add all the other ingredients. Done! Take a tablespoon of batter and flatten it in your palm.
Take your whole toasted hazelnuts and put it in the middle, then roll the batter into a ball. Chill the homemade Ferrero Rocher Balls while you chop and melt your chocolate over a hot water bath.
Chop your hazelnuts coarsely in your food processor and stir them into the chocolate! Now, dip your healthy Ferrero Rocher Balls into the chocolate.
As they are cold, the chocolate will set rather quickly and you can enjoy your first homemade Ferrero Rocher Ball within minutes!
Tips for making this healthy Ferrero Rocher Balls recipe:
- Use Vegan Chocolate Chips for the chocolate coating to keep the Ferrero Rocher Balls vegan.
- As a nut butter, I like to use Pure Hazelnut Butter in this recipe. You can use sunflower seed butter or almond butter instead.
- Once your chocolate is melted, stir in the hazelnuts and immediately start coating your chilled hazelnut truffles. If you wait too long, the chocolate will firm up too much.
Guys, I know you will love these healthy homemade Ferrero Rocher Balls! They are easy to make and the definition of festivity!
I mean, indulging in our favorite chocolate hazelnut truffles this Christmas without any guilt whatsoever? What’s not to love about that?

Recipe Notes
To remove the skin off hazelnuts you need to roast them for a few minutes in the oven at 350°F, until the skin begins to crack. Then you can easily peel the skin off the nuts. Alternately, you can purchase blanched hazelnuts.
