Instructions

  1. Prepare the walnuts: Roast the walnuts, then chop them finely.
  2. Mix the dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Add the roasted walnuts, butter, powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and maple syrup. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Chill the dough: Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic, and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Roll & cut: Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Roll the dough out to about ½ cm thickness (¼ inch) and cut out cookies using your favorite cookie cutters.
  5. Bake: Place the cookies on a lined baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool completely.
  6. Make the glaze: Mix powdered sugar with maple syrup to create a glaze. Once the cookies are cooled, dip or drizzle the glaze over them.
  7. Decorate: Place a walnut half on each cookie before the glaze hardens.
  8. Store: Store the cookies in a tin, preferably in a cool room. They will stay fresh for up to 3 weeks.
